Geopark Crossing
History and culture are joined on a trail that travels through Las Villuercas.
Passage Through Geopark along its 61.5 km route in most part coincides with part of the section of the Jeronimos Way, a pilgrimage track that connects the Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the Royal Monastery of Yuste, in the region of La Vera. This allows you to pass through the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark from north to south or vice versa, and also link the MTB routes of the Villuercas Nature Trail and the Tagus Nature Trail.
The stretch has been divided into two stages, about 30 km each, which though are not very long are fairly tough due to its terrain.

STAGE 1: Bohonal de Ibor – Castañar de Ibor – Navalvillar de Ibor
The stage commences at Bohonal de Ibor, heading southwards on the EX-118 and after 1 km to take the Castañar de Ibor path which goes up to rañas de las Mesillas.
After once again the EX-118, the route goes down to despoblado de la Avellaneda, to continue climbing through the Ibor river valley until Castañar. In this town we may visit the interpretation centre of Cueva de Castañar, the chestnut grove of Calabazas, a natural space formed by 17 monumental chestnut trees; and the natural swimming pool of the Ibor river, a wonderful option if visiting during summer.
The route continues to flip from one side of the road to the other until finally arriving at Navalvillar de Ibor.

STAGE 2: Navalvillar de Ibor – Guadalupe
We start at Navalvillar taking the Castanarejo trail up to the Hospital del Obispo mountain pass. This area is the toughest in terms of slopes, and is made up of a long and quite hard mountain pass.
At the head of the valley a spectacular and steep descent begins over the Navatrasierra road, where caution is needed.
We will go off the road towards the Pinarejo river, which we will cross on foot over a stone bridge and thus get to the Ibor river. Here we will leave the Jeronimos Way and ascend the Humilladero on the EX-118, from where we get our first glimpse of Guadalupe and its imposing Monastery. We will descend on the Water path.
